FDOH Provides Funding for Participation in the CDC’s Expanded Testing Initiative

(Tampa, FL – September 30, 2010) The USF Center for HIV Education and Research has received funding from the Florida Department of Health to participate in the Center for Disease Control’s Expanded Testing Initiative (ETI). The goal of the ETI is to identify the approximately 21-percent of HIV-positive persons who are unaware that they are infected. The program targets populations (particularly African Americans) that are disproportionately impacted. The ETI focuses on increasing the use of rapid HIV tests in clinical settings as a standard of care, promotes innovation and creativity to support the implementation of routine testing, and offers suggestions for ongoing support to continue routine HIV testing.
